Alex Lyon or Elvis Merzlikins? The NHL Stat Breakdown

This is as close as it gets. Alex Lyon and Elvis Merzlikins split the statistical categories evenly — 2 apiece — making this one of the most genuinely contested G comparisons in NHL history. When the numbers are this balanced, the debate comes down to which statistics matter most to you.

Elvis Merzlikins's Games Played of 274 compared to Alex Lyon's 149 represents a 83.9% advantage — dramatically better than their counterpart in this critical category. It is the single most decisive number in this comparison and the clearest statistical argument for Elvis Merzlikins's edge.

The most competitive category in this matchup is Save Percentage, where Alex Lyon posts 90.3% against Elvis Merzlikins's 90% — virtually identical figures. Elvis Merzlikins can point to this as evidence that the overall comparison is closer than the final 2-2 tally suggests. Goaltending is evaluated through save percentage and goals against average — complementary metrics that together capture both consistency and quality of saves made under pressure.

With categories split evenly, this comparison ultimately comes down to which statistics matter most to you. Elvis Merzlikins claims the tiebreaker through Games Played advantage — a 83.9% edge — but reasonable people can, and do, argue both sides of this NHL debate.
